Truck driver sought after collision with car on M61

Lancashire Police are trying to trace the driver of a HGV that collided with a blue Fiat Punto yesterday afternoon (Thursday 16 June 2016).

The incident happened at around 2.05pm at junction 9 of the M61 northbound near to Clayton Brook. This caused the Fiat to spin and hit the nearside barrier.

The wagon driver failed to stop at the scene whilst the driver of the car, a 59-year-old woman from West Yorkshire suffered bruising and whiplash and was also treated for shock.

The passengers – an 18 month old girl and a four year old boy – were uninjured.

Road Policing Officer PC 876 Glen Hilton said:  “It is shocking to think that any driver, particularly someone driving a HGV, would not stop after colliding with a much smaller car.

“I am trying to piece together exactly what happened and how this collision came to occur so I need any witnesses to come forward.

“If you were driving the wagon or know who was, please make contact with us. Similarly, if you saw something that could help, I would appreciate you getting in touch.”

Anyone with information can call police on 101 quoting incident reference 786 of June 16th.

Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at Crimestoppers-uk.org.
