Police name elderly Walsall collision victim
Police have named an elderly lady who died after being hit by a car at a busy Walsall road junction.
Mavis Storey was crossing the junction of Bloxwich Road and Leamore Lane just before midday on Saturday (13 August) when she was struck by a silver VW Golf just yards from her home.
The 88-year-old was taken to QE Hospital with critical injuries but sadly pronounced dead later that evening.
Her family have paid tribute to her, describing her as “a loving mother and sister who will be dearly missed”.
The 25-year-old male driver stopped at the scene and gave a voluntary interview to police officers; he has been released pending further enquiries.
West Midlands Police’s Collision Investigation Unit is looking into the cause of the incident and is urging witnesses to get in touch.
PC Julie Lynam, said: “It’s a very busy intersection; we’ve spoken to some witnesses already but I have no doubt more drivers will have seen what happened and continued on their way perhaps not realising the severity of the collision.
“I would ask anyone who saw the collision − or the silver Volkswagen driving along Leamore Lane − and who’s not yet spoken to us to get in touch on the 101 number quoting the log number 1045 13/08.”
