Tributes have been paid to a ’loving’ 80 year-old grandfather who died after being hit by a car in Walsall.

Salvatore Bongiovi passed away in hospital two days after the collision in Lichfield Road, near Rushall Care Home, on Wednesday (19 April).

A family statement released this afternoon said: “The kindest, most loving and loved husband, father and grandfather, loved by everyone that met him.

“Taken from us so cruelly and in the most unimaginable way.”

Officers are still seeking anyone who saw a silver Mercedes which is suspected of being involved in the collision at 11am. It is believed the car was used in a theft from a petrol station in Ablewell Street earlier.
